It can be a great way to jot down musical ideas anywhere you are. ScoreCloud is also much cheaper. The last notation software that you need to look into is Note Flight. Many companies are moving away from downloadable software and building everything in the cloud. Note flight follows this paradigm.
You can use Note Flight for free, and actually get quite a bit of basic functionality with it. You just log into the website and away you go writing music. If you already have a software you love, stick with it. If you are looking into software for the first time, you have some options. Finale and Sibelius might just be more than you need for a price that you might find unreasonable.

Thus I was thinking about a sort of a program so that if I am pressing a key on the piano there must be one note on the score, the notelength is not important at that moment, just like a wordprocessor. So then I need in the program the possibillity of aferwards classify the meters and notelengths. I understand it is nearly not possible but maybe. I am dutch so forgive me my english mistakes. Garage band, althoughit is not really a music notation program, does this. You need a mac computer, but you can play notes on your midi keyboard and later go in and change the note lengths.

Not that the sounds of its payed version are bad, but being able to play back using VST instruments would add a high value to Note Flight. Is there a software that does this? What kind of mic, etc would I need? Tierramedia have not yet produced an updated version for retail as yet. Music Works was perfect for my needs. I was able to compose, play it back through a keyboard, record direct, transpose and print. Another advantage of music software is that you can hear the notes as you enter them.

I started using Musescore because it is free; I have never used any of the paid products. Considering that it is totally free, you might not expect the product to offer excellent support, but I had a serious problem with a score, and the Musescore community from around the world chipped in to solve it. Can this be done on Finale Notepad? Is this possible?

I have a digital Yamaha with midi capability. Could someone recommend software for this function? Now, thanks to technology, the landscape is completely different.
You might be composing your own music or creating an arrangement for a student. Where once you needed weeks to learn how a complex software package worked, now you can achieve the same outcome with very little time investment. Others might be online as well as in app form. The downside is that you generally have a larger up-front costs and you have to keep downloading upgrades and sometimes buying them as they are released. Sibelius is probably my favourite here. This type of software can be accessed from any computer, laptop or tablet with an internet browser.
